British Tweed: From Twiggy to The Traitors – A Skirt to Wear Forever

Have you been watching The Traitors?

And as I take in Claudia Winkleman's brilliant styling, I'm reminded of the enduring appeal of British tweed. She wears it so well, and it looks as modern today as it ever has. It's no wonder our Highland Mini skirt has remained a favourite in the collection for eight years.

British tweed has a remarkable ability to move with the times. Worn simply with a favourite knit, it works just as well in the country as it does in the city.

A beautiful British cloth

Our Highland Mini is made in a beautiful tartan boucle tweed, woven entirely in the UK by Laurent Garigue, a name synonymous with exceptional British textiles since 1947.

This is a cloth with a wonderful heritage. Originally supplying the great Parisian couture houses, including Balenciaga, Dior and Chanel, Laurent Garigue has continued its tradition of making outstanding fabrics, worn by members of the Royal Family, including Queen Elizabeth II, Queen Camilla and the Princess of Wales.

Blended from mohair and wool, the boucle tweed is beautifully soft, with a lovely lightness and texture. It is a cloth of real distinction, and comes in three wonderful colourways.

A shape that lasts

We've kept the shape of the Highland Mini deliberately simple: a slightly A-line silhouette that sits beautifully and is easy to wear. It's a timeless little skirt that works with all sorts of things already in your wardrobe – a slouchy jumper and loafers, a fine knit and boots, or something a little more dressed up.

One of the nicest things about designing clothes is hearing how much pleasure they bring to the people who wear them. Cathryn recently sent us this note:

“Just thought I would let you know the skirt is perfect. I have always loved a short skirt but in the last few years questioned whether it was ‘me’ anymore… and the answer is yes it is. It's given me the push to dig through my clothes and revisit similar items – but nothing as beautiful as this. You will find me in the skirt, loafers and a slouchy sweater for the foreseeable. A real forever purchase, I love it! The fabric is divine – luxurious but light as a feather.”

Thank you, Cathryn. We couldn't have put it better.

Made in London in small batches

We make the Highland Mini in very small batches, and they aways sell out quickly. If your size is currently out of stock, you can pre-order, with delivery expected within two to three weeks.

It's a skirt we hope you'll enjoy wearing for many years to come.
