Welcome to our British Brocante!
This year more than ever I've become increasingly appreciative of the most hardworking pieces within my wardrobe, simple styles cut in good cloth that elevate the everyday no matter what I'm doing. With this in mind, I conjured up the idea of our ‘beautiful basics’, best loved shapes in luxurious linen and cotton, pieces that will last for years and supersede fleeting trends.
Here you’ll find dresses to throw on in the morning, not too overdressed at home, yet 'put together' enough for work; trousers and skirts cut with ease, with subtle details to enhance rather than complicate.
Inspiration for many of our classic styles come from a lifelong love of vintage shopping, I particularly love country fairs to find antique linens and hand-me-down styles. So join us for a browse at our own 'British Brocante' and shop our selection of wholesome gingham checks and pretty vintage florals in styles that are simply beautiful. As ever all made in England. Our 'Beautiful basics' were inspired by the idea of a British Brocante, in the spirit of country fairs in France, creating a collection of heirloom pieces to be loved for years to come.
We gathered vintage linen checks to inspire our own weaves, and looked to historical workwear for shapes and details...
Artist and writer Tove Jansson (famous for her work on the beloved Moomins) made her way onto our Spring moodboard, with her painters smocks and flower crown.
We have topped up our stock of the Pimlico linen dress...
I love Edouard Vuillard's work, in particular this painting Fillettes se Promenant. Much like the Bloomsbury Group, Vuillard worked within a creative community, Les Nabis, and this spirit of collaboration is something which we strive to emulate.
Vintage smock dresses are always a huge source of inspiration, made from well-worn linen in plains and checks. We love the mix of gingham checks with archive Liberty prints.
